Michelle Jing Chan (she/her) is a queer Chinese American author-illustrator who studied engineering and economics, but now creates books and comics for kids and teens. She gravitates towards empowering stories that celebrate diversity and self-acceptance –books she would have loved to read as a kid.

Michelle’s books have earned awards from the Children’s Book Council, the Chinese American Librarians Association, and Hindi’s Libraries. Her work has been featured in the Wing Luke Museum, Buzzfeed, and Upworthy.

Michelle is the author-illustrator of three upcoming picture books: WEIWEI’S WINTER SOLSTICE, THE LUCKIEST LION DANCER, and EMERY IS NOT A DRAGON. In addition to these, she also is the creator of her upcoming debut Young Adult graphic novel, SOMEWHERE IN THE GRAY.

When she’s not working at her desk, Michelle spends her time petting the neighborhood cats, cozying up with a book, or hunting for ghosts and cryptids in spooky video games.
