Deborah Hopkinson is the award-winning author of more than eighty books for young readers including picture books, historical fiction, nonfiction, and Little Golden Books. Deborah’s nonfiction includes They Saved the Stallions and Titanic, Voices from the Disaster, which received a YALSA Excellence in Nonfiction honor and a Robert F. Sibert Honor. She is also the author of four early readers about a ship’s cat named Trimm; three titles in the series were named Junior Library Guild selections.

Deborah’s picture book, On a Summer Night, was the 2025 Honor Book for the Margaret Wise Brown Prize. Other awards include the Green Earth Book Award, the SCBWI Golden Kite Award, a Boston Globe/Horn Book Honor, and the Jane Addams Peace Association Award. Evidence! How Dr. John Snow Solved the Mystery of Cholera was an ALA Notable Book, an NCSS Notable Trade Book in the Social Studies, and was named a Best Book of 2024 by Kirkus Reviews, New York Public Library, and Chicago Public Library.

Forthcoming titles include WWII nonfiction, a picture book entitled It Began with a Duck, an illustrated middle grade called Lucky’s Home for Lost and Starving Dogs, and the Dolly Parton Ultimate Fan Edition. Originally from Lowell, MA, Deborah now lives in Oregon and enjoys presenting to educators and readers of all ages.
